How to avoid costs?
Published: 09.05.2020
For small and medium-sized businesses, warehouses, manufacturers, distributors and importers, cost control for freight transportation can be important to maintain profitability of product lines or even the success of the business itself. The following are some important steps to avoid additional unexpected costs for shipping.

Avoiding additional freight costs:

1. Always get fixed prices in writing
Before allowing the carrier to send the truck, make sure that you have received from it conditions that fully describe the load and include all fees. You will need this written document (clearly from them, in the form of an email, quote or an approved purchase order) in case they charge you too much when billing.

2. Have the right size and weight
The key to a valid fixed-value offer is accurate measurements of length, width, height and weight.

3. Check your pickup and delivery location, as well as any restrictions
Make sure that the type of truck you order can reach the place of receipt and delivery. Can a truck make a turn in front of your object? Do not imagine the living space as commercial and do not hope that the carrier will not notice.

4. Understand if you need any special services and make sure they are included in the price.
Special services include delivery / pick-up at the place of residence, the scheduled time for pick-up or delivery (unlike any time during the specified day of pick-up or delivery), dangerous goods, shipment in a bundle, and others. Understand what each of them means, and make sure it is included in the source sheet.

5. If you send across the border, prepare all customs documents and send them to the carrier at the time of booking.
Make sure that you have a customs lawyer who can arrange the goods arriving in the country of delivery and fill out all the documents before contacting the carrier.

6. Make sure you have written and received delivery dates.
Part of the cost of each shipment depends on how quickly it will be delivered.

7. Make sure all taxes and fuel surcharges are included in the price

8. Make sure you have the coverage you need

9. Pack your cargo correctly

Remember to pack securely, pack in plastic wrap in advance, or otherwise protect the cargo. Most cargo damage can be prevented by proper packaging.
